2026 January Dinner

January 15 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free – $20.00

2024 International Energy Code (IECC)

The 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) provides pathways for deeper energy savings and carbon reduction when compared to the 2021 code. This focus on increased energy savings is the result of electrification readiness and greater flexibility in mechanical systems. Key changes include:

  • Flexible Point System (section R408)
  • Updated performance paths
  • Provisions for grid interactive buildings.

This presentation will elaborate into the prescriptive path’s point system which requires builders to utilize systems such as high-efficiency heat pumps, Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV’s), etc. This new system compared to IECC 2021 allows for cost-effective trade-offs, such as reducing wall insulation in exchange for using high-efficiency heat pump systems which will make compliance more adaptable.

Speaker: Louis Van Belle

Our speaker for the January meeting will be Louis Van Belle.
Louis is a Project Engineer for Millies Engineering Group. With over two decades of HVAC related experience his work ranges from building calculations for LEED submittals to building energy audits and energy code reviews. Louis holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Dordt University. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer within the state of Indiana. He has served various executive roles while serving on the Northern Indiana Chapter for ASHRAE which include CTTC chair, Student Activities chair, and president. Louis will be presenting the new IECC 2024 which has undergone substantial changes in order to promote more energy efficient systems.
